Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in Dayton, Ohio
Hair loss treatment, scar repair and facial rejuvenation with PRP
At Ohio Skin Center, Dr. Gandhi uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to treat various skin and hair concerns. From anti-aging to hair regrowth and scar repair, his patients see it as a desirable alternative to conventional medications. Because PRP doesn’t use chemicals besides the body’s naturally produced blood cells, it’s complementary to other treatment regimens.
Platelet-rich plasma is a safe and natural procedure for cosmetic facial rejuvenation, preventing and treating hair loss, stimulating hair regrowth, diminishing scars and improving surgical wound healing.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a therapy that uses the healing properties of platelets from the patient’s own blood plasma to promote healthy, new cell regeneration.
Benefits of PRP
- Increase blood flow to hair shafts to nourish existing hair
- Stimulate hair regrowth from thinning areas
- Promote new growth of transplanted hair
- Increase new collagen and elastin production (a process that naturally slows down as we age)
- Add volume to facial areas
- Speed up the healing process of wounds
- Minimizes scars (acne, surgical, trauma)
What to expect with PRP therapy
Dr. Gandhi uses platelets from your blood plasma to treat areas of concern. When you arrive for your appointment, a registered nurse (RN) will draw a small amount of blood from your arm and prepare it in the lab using a centrifuge machine to separate the plasma and platelets from the blood.
Platelets contain growth factor proteins that stimulate your body’s natural healing and repair process when injected into the dermis (the 2nd layer of skin).
Only a board-certified dermatologist should perform PRP injections.
With a tiny needle, Dr. Gandhi injects small amounts of plasma under the skin. In PRP facials with microneedling, plasma serum is not injected and instead gently dripped on the outer layer of skin so the microneedling device can help it penetrate the dermis.
Where on the body is PRP used?
PRP for Hair Loss
Platelet-rich plasma is a widely used treatment for thinning or balding hair. PRP uses your own blood platelets full of growth factor proteins to help regenerate healthy skin tissue. It nourishes the hair follicles to strengthen and thicken the hair preventing continued hair loss and improving hair regrowth.
PRP is injected under the skin on the scalp in areas where the hair is thinning. Patients should plan on receiving multiple treatments depending on the extent of thinning hair. Since it’s a natural treatment, there’s no concern with combining PRP therapy with other hair regrowth regimens, like shampoos, supplements and laser therapy.
Who is PRP for hair loss good for?
PRP can deliver visible results for many types of hair loss.
Good candidates for PRP are those with:
- Thinning hair due to male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia)
- Stress-related hair loss
- Recent hair loss
- Hair transplant regrowth
PRP for Facial Rejuvenation
PRP injected directly into the skin restores volume loss and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. It stimulates collagen production, which helps reduce the signs of aging.
Injection areas for PRP:
- Crow’s feet
- Smile lines
- Under-eye dark circles
PRP Facials with Microneedling
During a microneedling facial, plasma serum is dripped on the skin, allowing the platelet-rich plasma to penetrate deep into the skin during the treatment.
Benefits of PRP with microneedling (aka Vampire Facial):
- Reduce hyperpigmentation
- Minimizes acne
- Smooths acne scarring
- Shrinks pores
- Smooths fine lines
- Evens skin tone
- Improves skin texture
PRP for Acne Scars, Surgical Scars and Trauma Scars
Platelet-rich plasma works well for scar repair because the platelets have growth factor proteins that help promote new, healthy skin tissue growth.
PRP stimulates the production of collagen (a protein that produces healthy tissue), so when injected into a scar, the new collagen replaces scar tissue that formed in response to an injury (and just never went away).
The skin cell regeneration also smooths your skin’s texture and reduces discoloration like red and brown spots.
PRP Scar Treatment is good for:
- Prevent keloid scars from forming
- Reducing keloid scars (raised scars)
- Scars that don’t fade
- Scars that won’t go away
- Acne scars
- Visible scars
- Scars that prevent you from performing a function
- Scars that affect your self-esteem
- Scars that cause discomfort
PRP scar therapy results depend on the individual and the type of scar. In some patients, the scar disappears completely and others may see a visible decrease yet opt for additional laser therapies.
PRP for scar reduction is very safe and effective.

Generally, you can expect your PRP appointment to take 30-60 minutes. Dr. Gandhi aims to set accurate expectations and will discuss those with you when you book your appointment.
PRP is relatively painless. Depending on the treatment area, we offer multiple ways to ensure your comfort.
