Types of dermal fillers at Ohio Skin Center

Juvederm

Get noticeable results right away with Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid gel filler. With multiple Juvederm options to choose from Voluma XC, Vollure XC, Ultra XC and Volbella XC, patients can look forward to adding volume back into sagging cheeks, correcting folds and creases around the nose and mouth (smile lines), smoothing acne scarring and plumping thin lips.

Restylane

A hyaluronic acid-based filler, Restylane works well for lip enhancement, mouth lines, volume loss in cheeks, hollow eyes or dark circles under eyes. With no downtime and visible results right away, Restylane Silk, Lyft, Refyne and Defyne are specially formulated with different hyaluronic acid concentrations to target specific problem areas like tear troughs, laugh lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth.

RHA by Revance

First injectable filler of its kind to work with the dynamic movements of the face. RHA, a dermal filler, made of minimally processed hyaluronic acid, mimics the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in our bodies, making the repetitive day-to-day facial expressions look more natural.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a dermal filler used as a more long-term approach to correct areas on the face and hands. It fills areas of fat loss, wrinkles, deep folds around the mouth and nose and plumps aging hands. It uses calcium microspheres, CaHA —which naturally occurs in our bodies, to stimulate collagen production. Once the CaHA does its job, it’s reabsorbed into the body, leaving collagen in its place. The results can last up to two years.

Sculptra

Sculptra stimulates collagen production in patients with facial fat loss, sunken cheeks, deep wrinkles and folds. Sculptra is made of PPLA, poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material safely compatible with our bodies. Patients may see an immediate difference in their appearance, but full results usually take a few months. Sculptra can last up to two years.

Dermal fillers vary in formulation and indicated treatment areas. Only a fully trained board-certified cosmetic surgeon is qualified to administer dermal filler injectables.

Injections are performed with a tiny needle and sometimes a cannula. Patients have the option to receive a numbing cream, local anesthetic or numbing by ice pack to minimize any discomfort associated with dermal fillers.

Avoid rigorous workouts for at least a week.

There’s virtually no downtime after fillers. You can return to most of your daily activities right away. However, avoid touching or pressing on the injection area, rigorous workouts and sleeping on your face. Sleep on your back with your head propped on a pillow for at least 2 nights.

Yes, you’ll see results before you leave your filler appointment but give the dermal filler a full 4 weeks to settle in for full results.

Serious side effects are uncommon and should be discussed with your board-certified aesthetic injector. Common side effects include bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness and small lumps.

There’s minimal preparation required for your injections. Besides discussing your goals with your board-certified cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Gandhi recommends that you avoid things that may increase bleeding or bruising like aspirin, ibuprofen, St. John’s Wort, alcohol and smoking in the days before treatment.

The FDA has approved the fillers listed above. While serious side effects are rare, you’ll want to discuss with your board-certified dermatologist before treatment.

Appointments can take anywhere from 15-60 minutes, depending on the injectables and treatment areas. Once you arrive for your appointment, you’ll be offered a numbing treatment, which takes up to 20-30 minutes to kick in.

It varies. Fillers can last anywhere from 6 months to 18 months to two years. Speak with your board-certified cosmetic surgeon to determine which is right for you.
